Keith Whyte, longtime head of the National Council on Problem Gambling, has joined as FanDuel’s new strategic advisor for responsible gaming. The appointment reflects a realignment of trust between advocacy and operators at a time when the market is growing fast and scrutiny is rising.
A seasoned authority enters the operator’s arena
Whyte brings more than two decades of experience leading the National Council on Problem Gambling. He stepped away from the council earlier this year, then set out as founder of Safer Gambling Strategies LLC. At FanDuel, he will help steer development of its safer play architecture. His role covers building partnerships, pursuing advocacy opportunities, and supporting programmes intended to reduce gambling related harm.
Turning frameworks into meaningful engagement
Whyte’s remit includes work on the Trusted Voices programme, first launched in 2023 with EPIC Global Solutions. The initiative equips parents, coaches and trusted adults with tools to guide young people on betting risks and safe choices. He will also contribute to future events and content designed to weave responsible play into everyday business conduct, an effort FanDuel says will raise the bar across the industry.
Industry observers see the move as pragmatic. FanDuel is responding not only to expansion, but also to rising pressure from regulators and critics who question if operators can police themselves effectively. Bringing someone like Whyte into an advisory position gives the company added credibility in that debate.
