GamCare Publishes Evaluation of Its Money Guidance Service

GamCare has shared the results of an evaluation into its Money Guidance Service, offering a closer look at how the initiative is supporting people dealing with gambling-related financial harm. The program, which was designed to provide free and confidential advice, has been active since 2021 and has become a cornerstone of GamCare’s broader work on safer gambling and financial wellbeing.

Focus on financial resilience

The evaluation highlights how the service helps individuals regain control over their money management. Many participants reported that gambling debts and financial pressures were among the most stressful aspects of their situation. By offering structured guidance, debt management strategies, and direct referrals to specialist support, the service has created a pathway for vulnerable individuals to improve their financial resilience.

Key findings show that participants who engaged with the program were better able to budget, prioritize essential expenses, and access tailored debt advice. In several cases, clients reported reduced anxiety around finances after receiving structured guidance.

Collaboration with partners

Another point emphasized in the evaluation is the collaborative model used by GamCare. The Money Guidance Service works alongside external debt advice providers, banks, and local support networks. This has not only expanded the reach of the program but also ensured that people in crisis receive the right kind of help at the right time.

The evaluation also underlines the importance of integrating financial support into gambling harm prevention. By addressing money problems head-on, the service helps reduce the risk of relapse and supports longer-term recovery.

GamCare has stated that it will continue to refine the Money Guidance Service based on these findings, ensuring it remains a reliable tool for anyone facing the financial impact of gambling.
